Whether its due to poor performance, friction with teammates, or just playing time, it’s sometimes better for certain NFL players to move on. It’s for this reason that we decided to list the players that are in desperate need of a fresh start within the National Football League.
Buffalo Bills – Charles Clay
When Doug Whaley, the former General Manager of the Bills, decided to sign Charles Clay as a free agent during 2015, he was under the impression that he would deal a blow to the Miami Dolphins and improve his team. However, Buffalo is still feeling the effect of Clay’s contract as he is receiving $25 million in guaranteed money. Clay will likely be released during the offseason as he only managed to catch 21 passes for a total of 184 yards in the 2018/19 season.
New York Jets – Henry Anderson
Anderson enjoyed a sensational career in 2018 with seven sacks. However, he is not the most ideal fit for Gregg Williams when you consider the 4-3 scheme which he installed. Anderson has always managed to play his best game in a 3-4 scheme, especially when you look at his days at the Colts. Anderson is going to be a free agent for the very first time, and he is anticipating to receive offers from more than three different teams.
Houston Texans – Alfred Blue
Blue will be heading to free agency after he managed to play all 16 matches for the second time in his career. The primary lock, Lamar Miller, had 60 more rushing attempts when compared to Blue, despite playing fewer games. A brand-new start will give Blue a much better chance in a running back position for another team.
Jacksonville Jaguars – Blake Bortles
Jacksonville made a huge mistake when they decided to sign Bortles to a 3-year extension contract which will last until 2020 after he managed to post the best season of his entire career during 2017. He was unable to maintain his play level and struggled badly following a sizzling start in the previous season. He managed to throw 103 touchdown passes in 5 seasons, but its quite clear that he will not be the quarterback for the Jaguars in the future.
Chicago Bears – Cody Parkey
The kick that managed to bounce off two posts is the primary reason why Chicago was eliminated from the playoffs, which is also why Parkey needs to search for a new place. However, it goes far beyond that as well. Parkey managed to miss seven goal attempts and three extra points during the regular season which included three field goals within 40 yards and six field goals from within 50 yards.
Philadelphia Eagles – Ronald Darby
Darby managed to tear his ACL during November and only started half of the games during the last two seasons. The Eagles are likely to go with Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones, or Jalen Mills instead of Darby this time around who will become a free agent.
